| More than 120 companies from ten countries worldwide will take part in the 2nd international specialized exhibition Transport and Logistics 2008 which will be held in Minsk on October 7-10. Within the framework of the exhibition, Minsk will also host the 2nd Belarusian Transport Congress on October 8-9, BelTA learnt from forum’s organizers ZAO Technology and Communications.
The exhibition will feature all the kinds of up-to-date transport and logistics systems and equipment for them, transportation services, information and service systems for transport. |

| The house is nearly sold out for performances held during the V Belarusian International Puppet Theatre Festival. “Full House” notice has been hanging in the box office of the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre since the morning and theatre goers are asking for a spare ticket, BelTA has learnt.
The festival opened on October 3 with Maurice Maeterlinck’s Blue Bird staged by the Belarusian State Puppet Theatre. |

| The state production and trade association Belkhudozhpromysly under the Property Management Directorate of the President of the Republic of Belarus will take part in the 23rd international trading show BelTEXlegprom, BelTA learnt from the company.
The event will take place in the Belexpo exhibition center on October 7-10. Partaking in the exhibition will be the Progress Company, the Pinsk, Slonim and Mozyr artware factories that are set to present ready-made garments, loom work, workwear and special clothes. |

| Public sector companies should vigorously adopt positive practices used by private businesses, said President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko visiting glass factories in the Gomel oblast on October 3.
“Today’s situation allows free access of private companies to the industry,” said the head of state. “We will compare the performance of state-run companies and private ones and will make corresponding conclusions”. |

| The next year’s budget bill has passed its first reading in the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, with the deficit as high as 1.8% of the GDP, BelTA has learnt.
Presenting the bill, Belarusian Finance Minister Andrei Kharkovets noted that in 2009 revenues of Belarus’ consolidated budget are expected to total Br72.7 trillion or 46.9% of the GDP. The main sources of tax revenues of the consolidated budget are the VAT, foreign trade incomes, income and profit taxes paid by corporations, income tax paid by individuals, and excise duties. |

| The President of Syria will visit Belarus. The preparations for the visit were discussed during a meeting between Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov and the chief of the foreign political department of the Syrian Arab Republic Walid al Muallem.
The Foreign Minister of Syria said that the basis for the preparation for the visit will be created within the next few months. He added, the details of the visit were also discussed with the co-chairman of the Belarusian-Syrian joint commission Economy Minister of Belarus Nikolai Zaichenko. |

| The Belarusian parliamentarians will take part in the 119th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Geneva on October 13-15, Chairman of the House of Representatives Vadim Popov said at a session of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament on October 2.
The assembly is supposed to elect the IPU Chairman, consider the 2009 draft budget and discuss cooperation issues.
The deputies of the House of Representatives of the third convocation will take part in several international events using in order to advance national interests in the international arena. |

| The interest of foreign investors in Belarus is on the rise, Chairman of the German-Belarusian Economic Club Klaus Bayer said in Minsk on October 1 during the opening of the German Economy Day in Belarus.
He remarked the Belarusian government had taken serious measures to improve the investment climate, which is a major condition for the free development of companies and attraction of investments into the infrastructure. |

| The parliamentary elections are valid in all the 110 constituencies of Belarus, Secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus Nikolai Lozovik told BelTA.
As of 18:00 the voter turnout stood at 66.7%.
In the Brest oblast the voter turnout amounted to 64.2%, the Vitebsk oblast — 77.4%, the Gomel oblast — 69.7%, the Grodno oblast — 66.8%, the Minsk oblast — 57.7%, the Mogilev oblast — 69. |
