Vitebsk Oblast has registered 1,092 COVID-19 cases, Belarus Healthcare Minister Vladimir Karanik told journalists, BelTA has learned.

According to him, the growth rate of cases in Belarus is roughly the same as before, around 500 new cases a day. “So far, 1,092 people have tested positive for the coronavirus infection in Vitebsk Oblast. The good thing is that we see a noticeable decrease in patients suffering from pneumonia in the region. Cases of acute respiratory infections are also on the decline,” Vladimir Karanik noted.

He stressed that Vitebsk Oblast experienced two peaks at the same time – in cases of the coronavirus and respiratory virus infections exacerbated by pneumonia. “These two factors led to the increase in the number of patients with inflammatory airway diseases. This called for more efforts to localize the coronavirus hotbed. We hope that in the coming weeks we will observe a steady decline in cases of respiratory infections and pneumonia in the region,” the minister added.
