Lukashenko in favor of Minsk Oblast, Vitebsk Oblast development

MINSK, 5 December (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko heard out a report from Boris Batura, Chairman of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, on 5 December, BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian head of state. The governor informed the head of state that work had begun to fulfill his instruction to upgrade one farm per agricultural company up to modern standards in 2012. The President said: “I think it is feasible. Now the government is offering some forms of aid in the shape of roofing slates, cement and wood. We have all of that. We could make it considerably cheaper. But certain volumes have to be achieved. Everything will be under strict control to avoid thieving and wasting resources on other purposes”. According to Boris Batura, at present documentation is being vigorously developed. Most efforts aimed at modernizing farms will be exercised in winter when people in agriculture are less busy. Alexander Lukashenko believes it is necessary to focus soon on the development of Minsk Oblast and Vitebsk Oblast. The focused development will achieve a considerable increase in the national economy as a whole. “We will help Minsk Oblast as a priority because it should turn out extra volumes of agricultural and industrial products and services. We will focus on Minsk Oblast without forgetting Vitebsk Oblast as a second priority so that the country could grow stronger through these two oblasts,” said the head of state. He remarked that the development of other regions is well ahead due to various reasons. The Minsk Oblast Governor also informed the President about the attraction of investments into the region, including investments in agriculture. Once again the head of state stressed that Belarus and Minsk Oblast in particular have enough lands that can be used for investment projects without wasting croplands on it. Boris Batura also informed Alexander Lukashenko that this year Minsk Oblast is on track to hit the main quality targets. The oblast’s gross product growth rate will be somewhat lower than expected (107% instead of 109% as against 2010) along with the agricultural output (105%). About 1.1 million square meters of homes will be commissioned in the region (1.3 million). All in all, according to the Governor, development trends in Minsk Oblast are positive and allow fully honoring the state obligations regarding the social protection of the population.
