Belarus to attend IRENA Assembly session in Abu Dhabi on 4-5 April

MINSK, 31 March (BelTA) – An official delegation of Belarus is set to take part in the first session of the Assembly of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) which is due to take place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on 4-5 April, spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Andrei Savinykh told media on 31 March. The Belarusian delegation will be led by Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik and will comprise representatives of the Department for Energy Efficiency of the State Committee for Standardization and the National Academy of Sciences. According to Andrei Savinykh, the first session of the IRENA Assembly will be an official inauguration of the organization. The participants of the session will outline the working mechanisms of the agency, elect Director General and define the lines of activity of the organization. The Belarusian official stressed that Belarus took an active part in the development of the organization. The head of the Belarusian delegation will present the country’s views on the development of renewable energy and priority areas of activity of the new organization. While in Abu Dhabi, Sergei Aleinik will meet with the representatives of the Foreign Ministry of the United Arab Emirates to discuss the issues of current importance. IRENA is an international specialist organization which major objective is to promote the widespread and increased adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy for increasing economic energy efficiency and ensuring energy security.
