Belarus to focus on small mobile companies

MINSK, 21 April (BelTA) – Belarus will give priority to setting up small mobile companies, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said while answering MPs’ questions on 21 April. “We will construct mobile, flexible, small companies. We have enough giant companies. We need to preserve them and we will,” the President stressed. Alexander Lukashenko noted that facilities in Belarus should be set up taking into account the country’s resources. “We will not lose if we invest, including budgetary funds, in such companies,” he said. The President cited as a good example the production of fresh groundwater and its bottling. “After all, the quality of our water is one of the best in the world. The water is exceptional according to experts’ findings. And why don’t we sell it? Why do we import it from Poland, France and other places? We have to invest here, create new businesses here,” the President said. According to the President, any enterprise, be it large or small, must be mobile. Analyzing the work of large domestic enterprises, Alexander Lukashenko said that at some point they should enter into cooperation with transnational corporations in other countries. “They have dealer networks, markets. What if they act in our interests, what if we are offered the terms that will not affect us but will provide an opportunity, for example to MAZ or MTZ, to expand? But there are no fools. The competition was, is and will be,” the President said. Alexander Lukashenko added Belarus has a significant number of large enterprises. “I am a supporter of small and medium-sized flexible enterprises. But we cannot disband our business giants. As I was informed, even MAZ is stating to post profits. We have become competitive, which means that the companies are capable of something,” the President said.
