Over 100 Belarusian agribusiness enterprises still face import restrictions in Russia
Restrictions on shipping products to Russia are still in effect for over 100 Belarusian agribusiness enterprises, BelTA learned from Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Russia Vladimir Semashko during the online conference held on 10 June to discuss prospects of advancement of Belarus-Russia relations.
According to the ambassador, as of today as many as 43 Belarusian meat-packing plants, 41 dairy plants, 12 poultry-processing plants, eight fish-processing plants, and six manufacturers of animal feed are subject to complete or partial restrictions on shipments to the Russian market.
“There are constant milk wars, meat wars, vegetable wars, and other kinds of trade wars. I am not going to go into details but we should learn something from the European Union,” Vladimir Semashko said. “These things work smoothly in the European Union: the head of the agency that controls veterinary status, sanitary norms, and so on in Germany cannot close the German market to a food enterprise in France. While the French side cannot forbid an enterprise in Germany from importing to France.”
On the whole, Vladimir Semashko stated that 61 regulations in Russia limit the ability of Belarusian companies to ship their products to Russia. He remarked that in Belarus there is a single presidential decree, which provides support for the Belarusian mechanical engineering industry. However, the ambassador stressed, the decree specifies that the support also covers machines, equipment, and vehicles made in the entire Eurasian Economic Union.
