Training Infrastructure for agricultural specialists should be upgraded

SHKLOV DISTRICT, 5 August (BelTA) –Physical infrastructure for training specialists for Belarus’ agribusiness should be upgraded, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said during an informal meeting with the mass media of the Mogilev and Vitebsk oblasts in Alexandria agrotown on 5 August, BelTA has learnt. The President pointed to a paradox: agricultural science is advancing across all the branches, new research centers are set up, the practice has improved considerably, but education is lagging far behind. Alexander Lukashenko emphasized that education should not be trailing behind agriculture and agribusiness, instead it should keep up with them or even surpass. The Belarusian Agricultural Academy is the source of manpower for the country’s agriculture. Alexander Lukashenko emphasized the need to upgrade its physical infrastructure and optimize the training process. “It might make sense to reduce the training period by a year, or as an alternative, to replace theory by field practice during the fifth academic year, I insist on that,” the President said. He explained that each year the academy enrolls more and more urban students. “They had little farming experience, they cannot even tell the difference between a cow and a bull. Why would we need such specialists? Therefore, the fifth academic year should consist of only field practice. Supervised by teachers and agricultural specialists, students should learn how to work on the field, farms, grain storage facilities, workshops, and get a clear idea of what agriculture is,” the President concluded.
