Amendments to the criminal liability codes were discussed in Vitebsk
The innovations of the draft law "On changing codes on criminal liability", which is under consideration in the House of Representatives, were discussed in Vitebsk today, BelTA correspondent reports.
The dialogue platform, which was held by the Permanent Commission on Legislation, gathered participants in the courthouse of the Pervomaisky district of the regional center. Prosecutors, investigators, judges of the northern region joined the discussion, many of them online. The event was organized as part of the execution of the President's instructions to discuss the most pressing provisions of the bill on the ground. The draft law "On amending codes on criminal law" has been sent to Parliament by the head of state.
The document provides for a systematic revision of the Criminal Code to differentiate and individualize criminal liability.
Alexander Omelianyuk, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Legislation of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus, noted that it has become a good tradition in the country to discuss the most important draft laws with a wide range of specialists and the public. "The main message of this bill is the fairness of our criminal legislation, the differentiation of punishments, an individual approach to everyone who has crossed the line of the law. We held the same meetings in Brest, Minsk, and the Minsk region. It is very important for us to know the opinion of experts and the public about the norms and proposals that we hope will be adopted soon," Alexander Omelianyuk said.
A lot of work preceded the creation of this project. "Of course, we trust the specialists, experts of the interdepartmental commission, which was established by order of the head of state," he added. — Nevertheless, our President drew attention to the fact that when preparing the draft law for consideration, the most pressing issues need to be discussed in such a circle so that people can speak out what will be accepted positively, which points need to be finalized. Because from the spot it is better to see how the law will work. Today, the task is to predict that the law will work and be positively perceived by society and specialists. To make it work effectively."
