Belarus parliament ready for talks with USA

MINSK, 13 December (BelTA) – The Belarusian parliament is ready to discuss the entire range of mutual interest topics with the USA, said Sergei Maskevich, Chairman of the International Affairs and CIS Relations Commission of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, as he met with representatives of the top USA analytical centers on 13 December. According to the MP, the fact-finding visit of the USA representatives testifies to the USA interest in processes, which are going on in Belarus and in the Belarusian parliament in particular. The MP assured that the Belarusian parliament will secure the most favorable conditions for the guests to acquire complete information. He said that the Belarusian parliament is ready to discuss the entire range of mutual interest topics, including Belarus-USA relations and Belarus-Europe relations. Janusz Bugajski, head of the USA delegation, director of the New European Democracies project, chief research officer of the Europe program of the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said that it was a fact-finding visit and that members of the delegation were interested in the situation in Belarus, including the domestic and foreign policies, expectations and prospects. “Belarus is a part of Europe. The sooner it gets integrated into Europe, the better. We would like to learn more about the country and to learn what the USA can do to help,” he said. Representatives of the USA delegation said that they were interested in a large number of matters, including the presidential election, Belarus’ relations with other countries, in particular, Russia, national security and energy security matters.
