Belarus President demands strict control over housing quality

MINSK, 9 March (BelTA) – President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko demanded strict control of the quality of the housing under construction as he met with Head of the State Control Committee (SCC) Alexander Yakobson on 9 March. The President was informed on the results of the SCC activities in 2010 and its objectives for 2011. The meeting highlighted measures to tighten control over housing construction and its quality. a lot of unsolved problem still remain in this field. For instance, about 180,000 square meters of housing were not commissioned due to poor quality. The President demanded stricter control over the housing quality, in order to avoid mistakes such flaws in future. Alexander Yakobson assured the President that the housing commissioning, its volume and quality will be under strict supervision of the State Control Committee in 2011. The meeting considered the issue of providing state support and efficiency of its use. As the head of state was reported, in 2010 the number of inefficient projects, which used state support, made up about one-third of the number of economic actors audited by the State Control Committee. However, it should be borne in mind that a number of economic entities cannot operate efficiently due to objective reasons. Particularly this applies to certain agricultural enterprises. The President instructed to conduct a serious analysis of the situation and report back to him Each year state support is provided to more than 3,000 economic entities. At the same time recipients of state support has started failing to achieve the expected results. Certain portion of state funds is spent inefficiently, The principal amount of the inefficiently used funds accounts for individual investment and innovation projects, which suggests a lack of elaborated decision-making on the need to implement them. The State Control Committee suggests that the state support should be provided solely to worthwhile projects. When speaking about the activities of the State Control Committee, Alexander Lukashenko demanded that the SCC should carry out more in-depth analyses in its work. For his part, Alexander Yakobson said that in 2011 the SCC will become more analytical while performing its functions. The President was also reported on the progress made in the implementation of his other instructions.
