Belarus to develop caravanning

MINSK, 10 March (BelTA) – Caravanning (taking holidays in trailers, mobile homes and camps) will soon get its development in Belarus, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism of the Sports and Tourism Ministry of Belarus Andrei Martynov told BelTA. In his words, more campsites are needed to encourage this type of holidays in the country. Such campsites should include parking, car wash, stores, amenities and other associated infrastructure. Caravanning has already reached its peak in Europe and the U.S. It may become quite popular in Belarus, too, keeping in mind the country’s transit location. Last year over 4 million foreigners visited Belarus for business and tourism purposes. The majority of them travelled across the country in a car. In the coming years the number of camping sites as well as the road service facilities will increase in Belarus. Investors in the Belarusian tourism sector will receive tax privileges. The corresponding draft decree will provide for allocation of land under construction without holding competitive auctions. In addition, Tax-Free Refund system for foreign travelers will be introduced to enhance Belarus’ attractiveness as a tourist destination.
