Expert: Unsanctioned rally in Minsk reminds of Dark Ages

MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The unsanctioned protest of opposition in Minsk reminds of the early Dark Ages times, Director of the Vitebsk branch of the International Institute of Labor and Social Relations, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Veniamin Kosmach told BelTA. In his words, the goal of any political party is to assume power. But the race for power should be legal. “Indeed, the pre-election campaign was democratic, although certain candidates voiced aggressive statements, but nobody imagined that they would go so far. The unrest in Minsk reminds of the early Dark Ages barbarism. Such race for power is inadmissible,” Veniamin Kosmach said. In addition, he said that involvement of the immature youth into political games is totally unacceptable. “If certain people cannot struggle for power otherwise, why do they put the young people at stake?” says Veniamin Kosmach. He considers it inadmissible to put people at risk for the sake of somebody’s political ambitions. The professor also praised the composure of authorities, and self-control and professional competence of law enforcement agencies in particular. Organizers of the riots put people’s lives at risk, and they should be made responsible for it, said Veniamin Kosmach.
