Lukashenko: Housing construction program will be adjusted

SHKLOV DISTRICT, 12 May (BelTA) – Belarus’ housing construction program will be adjusted, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko said as he visited Mogilev Oblast on 12 May, BelTA has learnt. The head of state noted that in general the housing issue is not that urgent in Belarus, therefore, the housing construction program needs to be refined. “We need to identify people who we should help and for who we should construct housing. If you want to improve your living conditions, get money out of your pocket and pay. We should help only those for who this will be the first house,” the head of state said. He added that this issue should be approached carefully. “We need to be more judicious. We should not recklessly promise accommodation for everyone. We will not provide everyone with housing,” the President said. Talking about other government programs, the head of state said that they will be cut but only where necessary. “Many people tell me: let us reduce government programs. Ok. What next? Then let us not build complexes, roads, houses… No. Everything will be built. There should not be any embezzlement any more. We need to think one thousand times if we should use silicate, for example, iron doors or doors from other materials; what matters most is that they should last long and look good,” the President emphasized. Alexander Lukashenko is convinced that it is possible. “Private business can do that. When businessmen do something, whatever it is, it is two times cheaper than what we do on behalf of the state,” the President added. He emphasized that the government program on rural development will not be cut. “If we lose momentum in the rural renovation, we will probably never gain it again,” Alexander Lukashenko said. He noted that the number of agricultural facilities should not be reduced, as there is great demand for agricultural produce now and there is no need to search for sales markets. At the same time, the head of state believes that the major problem besetting the countryside is the lack of discipline, including reckless pricing. He reiterated that the most optimal variants should be chosen whatever the industry.
