VITEBSK, 20 December (BelTA) – The Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Health Care Workers has informed the healthcare department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee about its plans to take part in the investment project to expand and improve the infrastructure of the Braslav Regional Junior TB Rehabilitation Center, BelTA learnt from head of the healthcare department of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee Yuri Derkach.
Vatican sent a letter to the local authorities saying that it is going to earmark funds for the construction of new bedrooms and treatment facilities of the center and purchase of the equipment in 2012. The co-financing will be provided on a parity basis.
The implementation of the project will help double the number of beds in the rehabilitation center and create conditions conductive to the rehabilitation and recuperation of teenagers. Half of the beds will be provided to Belarusian boys and girls free of charge; the rest will be offered to foreign nationals for a fee.
The TB rehabilitation center in Braslav was set up in 1946. At present it is a specialized facility providing TB rehabilitation and treatment all the year round. It can accommodate 50 boys and girls aged 14-17.
