VITEBSK, 29 March (BelTA) – A joint exhibition of the works of students of the departments of art and graphics of the Masherov State University of Vitebsk and the Smolensk State University will open in Vitebsk on the Unity Day of Belarus and Russia on 31 March, BelTA learnt from Dean of the Department for Art and Graphics of the Vitebsk State University, candidate of pedagogic sciences Dmitry Senko.
Graphic artists of the two universities have been cooperating for more than 10 years exchanging exhibitions, conducеing joint art soirees and summer practice training. In summer 2010 Vitebsk students underwent practice training in Smolensk; Smolensk future artists stayed in the Belarusian oblast center. Students learnt about historical and architectural monuments. The results of the summer open airs will make a basis of the exhibition which is to be housed at the exhibition hall of the Department of Art and Graphics of the Vitebsk State University. The display will include nearly 40 works.
Painting techniques of Smolensk and Vitebsk artists differ. Vitebsk graphic artists are more distinguished by expression, momentum towards experimenting in the context of traditions of the Vitebsk art school at a time when their Smolensk colleagues welcome classics and academic painting.
The exhibition of student works will open up a series of events dedicated to the Unity Day of Belarus and Russia in the Vitebsk State University which are to be attended by a delegation of the Smolensk State University.
