All candidates guaranteed equal terms at Belarus presidential elections

MINSK, 27 June (BelTA) – All the candidates running for presidency in Belarus will be offered equal conditions, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko told the TV channel Euronews in an interview, BelTA has learnt. “I have already noticed that some major TV channels (Russian ones) started releasing their theses for the upcoming presidential elections in Belarus. Everything is absolutely clear: pressure is being exerted in the run-up to the presidential elections. They and our opposition believe that in order to maintain power Lukashenko will give away anything (for the support and recognition of the Kremlin). I would like to emphasize that I do not need any support. And I do not need any recognition, except for the recognition of the Belarusian people: if the Belarusian people elect Petrov, Sidorov or Ivanov – he will be the president here,” Alexander Lukashenko said. When asked about his plans to take part in the presidential elections in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko said: “I have once answered this question. If I see that people reject me, I will never go against the opinion of people.” The President underlined that he had always taken into consideration the opinion of the people and this is why he received support. “If I see that there is no more support, that people are tired of Lukashenko and the majority of them does not want Lukashenko to be president, I swear I will not stick with this post,” the Belarusian leader emphasized. Alexander Lukashenko assured that absolutely all presidential candidates will have equal conditions. “I do not need to create unequal conditions. Because you know what is going on around these elections, in Russia and in Europe (Europe will pressurize me to the utmost anyway). Why would I need to make precedents and give them additional reasons to say that I am illegitimate and have conducted the elections in the wrong way. I do not need it at all. I know the situation in the country; I know the rating of each of my possible challengers that want to be president. Though, not, do they really want to be president? It's an open question,” Alexander Lukashenko asked.
