Anatoly Rubinov: Belarus and Kazakhstan should use Customs Union’s opportunities

MINSK, 16 July (BelTA) – Belarus and Kazakhstan should use the opportunities of the Customs Union to their mutual benefit, Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Anatoly Rubinov said as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Belarus Anatoly Smirnov, BelTA has learnt. Chairman of the Council of the Republic is sure that the Customs Union opens new possibilities for both the countries to intensify the trade and economic cooperation, set up joint productions. According to him, the Customs Union will become a new stage in developing the Belarusian-Kazakh cooperation. Anatoly Rubinov noted the mutual economic interest of the two countries. “Kazakhstan has a trade window to the East, Belarus – to the West that gives additional economic opportunities and advantages,” he said. He also noted the closeness and the brotherly relations of Belarus and Kazakhstan. In turn, Anatoly Smirnov noted the friendly relations between the two countries and their leaders. He also said that this year the Belarusian President is expected to pay a visit to Kazakhstan. The diplomat shares the opinion that the Customs Union is advantageous to the peoples of Belarus and Kazakhstan. He stressed that over five months this year, the trade between Belarus and Kazakhstan increased by over 57% as against the same period of last year. He expressed hope that this tendency will be preserved in the future. Kazakhstan ranks third among the CIS countries on Belarus’ trade partners main list after Russia and Ukraine. Belarus mainly exports high-technology products to Kazakhstan and imports rolled metal products, wheat, barley, cotton hair, electric accumulators and other goods from that country.
