Belarus’ Red Cross Society raises donations to Russia, Pakistan

MINSK, 17 August (BelTA) – In connection with the dire humanitarian situation in Russia and Pakistan caused by the natural disasters the Belarusian Red Cross Society (BRCS) has announced the collection of donations from the public, organizations and enterprises of Belarus, BelTA learnt from Irina Karanchuk, a liaison officer of the Belarusian Red Cross Society. Donations can be transferred to the BRCS account 3015740099012, Office No.539 of Belinvestbank, BIC (MFO) 153001739, code 739, 11 Kollektornaya Street, OKPO 00016805, TIN 100265026. The funds of the Belarusian Red Cross intended for Russia will be transferred to a special account of the Russian Red Cross Society. The funds for Pakistan will be transferred to the account of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which coordinates aid to Pakistan. On 16 August the Bureau of the Belarusian Red Cross Society decided to allocate $2,000 to help citizens of Russia affected by the wildfires, and $2,000 for flood victims in Pakistan. According to Irina Karanchuk, not long ago the Russian Red Cross officially addressed the Belarusian national society with a request for financial support. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies provided almost $106,000 from the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund (DREF) to assist 1,700 Russian families and nearly $240,000 was earmarked for the Pakistani Red Crescent. An emergency appeal has been announced in order to collect more than $16.3 million for 25,000 Pakistani families. Donations will be used to purchase food, medications and medical equipment, clothes, personal hygiene products, blankets, potable water, necessary equipment for shelters and search for the missing, other needs. Workers and volunteers of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement are working in the regions seeking missing people, providing assistance to the injured and homeless. The Belarusian Red Cross Society is a civil nongovernmental association. The organization, both independently and in cooperation with state bodies, implements various events on the protection of people’s life and health, provides medical and social assistance, responds to the emergencies and armed conflicts.
