Belarus should stop importing some kinds of agricultural machinery, President says

PRUZHANY DISTRICT, 26 July (BelTA) – During a visit to Brest Oblast on 24 July, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko demanded to stop importing the agricultural machinery the analogues of which are produced in this country, BelTA has learnt. “We should stop importing agricultural machinery,” the President said. According to him, the imported machinery operates well. But, within a few years it breaks down and spare parts for it are too expensive, he added. Our combine harvesters are not worse than imported ones, Alexander Lukashenko stated. “We should buy domestic combine harvesters,” he noted. During the visit to Pruzhany District, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko heard out the harvesting progress report from Brest Oblast Governor Konstantin Sumar. All in all, Brest Oblast has harvested 32.5% of the total area under grain and leguminous crops apart for maize. More than 5% of the areas are cropped every day. During the talk with the local authorities the President also noted that the country needs to mobilize all resources to harvest corn now. Speaking about the development of agribusiness, Alexander Lukashenko noted that it is necessary to intensify the work on attracting investors and businesses to rural regions. The President also touched upon the problem of the reclaimed lands near the Belovezhskaya Pushcha National Reserve. According to him, a part of them is out of condition. “We have to put them in order,” Alexander Lukashenko demanded. The President also touched upon the problem related to the milk processing in the country. At present, the two regions of Belarus, Shklov District (Mogilev Oblast) and Pruzhany District (Brest Oblast) are setting up special dairy production zones. Big Russian company Unimilk has been admitted to participate in this project as well. In the near future, Unimilk is expected to set up a production line to produce yoghurts in Pruzhany District. Alexander Lukashenko also noted the necessity to boost the export of agricultural products. According to the President, the export of the agricultural products in Belarus should reach $7-10 billion.
