The Belarusian delegation urged to ensure fair representation by regions and countries in the leadership of the UN departments during the thematic debate on the UN reorganization held by the UN General Assembly in its headquarters in New York on April 8-9, BelTA learnt from Belarus’ Permanent Representative Office at the UN. Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus in the United Nations Andrei Dapkiunas said that the management of the organization can be seriously improved through fair and conscientious observance of the principles of sound management, equity and fairness by the leadership, staff and member states of the organization rather than by creating new complicated ways of structural reorganization. The representative of Belarus underlined that when selecting candidates for executive positions in the UN it is necessary not only to find the best professionals, but also to lend credibility to the organization and to eliminate any concerns connected with geographic or political bias. As an example of the existing shifts in the political balance the Belarusian delegate cited UN Department of Political Affairs, where 6 out of 9 executives come from three western countries.
