MINSK, 12 September (BelTA) – India is ready to be Belarus’ economic partner, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Manoj Kumar Bharti said at the business matchmaking session on 12 September, BelTA has learned. “The primary objective of today’s Belarus-India talks is to show that India can and is ready to become a true economic partner of Belarus. Today the private sector of the Indian economy is ready to invest in foreign companies, including Belarusian ones. Belarus’ government should believe in the technical and financial potential of the Indian business, which is the driving force of the Indian economy. It can become the driving force for the Belarusian economy as well,” Manoj Kumar Bharti noted. The Ambassador stressed that India is interested in cooperation with Belarus in energy sector, construction equipment, automobile industry, telecommunications, textile industry, machinery engineering, and pharmaceuticals. “The Belarusian pharmaceutical industry is looking for an investor and a reliable partner. India is known to be a manufacturer of qualitative medicines. And we are ready to support Belarus in this area,” Manoj Kumar Bharti said. He also noted that Belarus can save $2 million per year if the country purchases Indian anticancer medicines. The diplomat paid special attention of Indian businessmen to the Belarusian innovative achievements. “The National Academy of Sciences wields thousands of scientific achievements which can be interesting for India. The cooperation in this area is beneficial for both countries,” Manoj Kumar Bharti believes. Thus, the Embassy of India in Belarus has organized the meeting of Indian businessmen with Belarus’ State Science and Technology Committee. The session will be held on 13 September. Manoj Kumar Bharti is convinced that bilateral talks will be “a small but crucial step on the way to closer relations of the two countries.” Belarus is, in turn, eager to set up joint logistics centers in the country, establish joint agricultural companies and build energy sources running on various fuels. “We will be glad if Indian businessmen are interested in the cooperation in these industries. We hope that this meeting and the initiative of the Indian Ambassador to Belarus will give a boost to Belarus-India relations,” chairman of the Economy Department of the Minsk Oblast Executive Committee Alexander Turchin said. Head of the Foreign Economic Department of the Belarusian Industry Ministry Viktor Navrotsky added that Belarus is ready to cooperate with India in scientific and technical achievements. The country is also eager to set up join ventures in energy and manufacturing. The economic and trade cooperation between Belarus and India is constantly increasing. In 2010 the Belarus-India trade made up $482 million. In 2011-2012 the bilateral trade may exceed $1 billion.
