Lukashenko orders to use more domestic materials in building co-generation plants

PRUZHANY DISTRICT, 26 July (BelTA) – Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko ordered to use more local raw materials while constructing co-generation plants in Belarus. He made this statement as he toured the Pruzhany co-generation plant on 24 July, BelTA has learnt. “We should produce everything for such co-generation plants, except for some know-how that we cannot decipher. We should act like the Chinese do. We will not buy everything from abroad. We have enough brainy people, we can set up joint ventures producing 95% of parts in Belarus and importing 5% of parts from Finland, for example,” the head of state said. Alexander Lukashenko said that the Pruzhany co-generation plant was a pilot project for Belarus. “While constructing a third co-generation plant, you will use 80-85% of domestically-produced equipment. How come, the Chinese can adopt foreign technologies, but we cannot? We cannot afford wasting foreign currency,” the President said. Alexander Lukashenko welcomed the countrywide construction of co-generation plants operating on local fuels. “Cutting off hot water in summer has been a topical issue in the regions. Apart from that, look how the forests are littered with fallen wood, no one chops this unused wood. If we clear up the mess in the forests, we will have fuel for local co-generation plants. Amelioration will bring fruit, too. We can also use peat. All this can be used to general heat, electric energy and to heat water,” the President said. Under the government program, some 161 thermal power stations operating on local fuels will be constructed in Belarus within the next several years. “Such stations should be built in every district. Do not forget that this creates new jobs, too,” Alexander Lukashenko said. “It is a wonderful program and we should implement it whatever the cost. But we should do it in a careful way, avoiding mistakes and errors,” Alexander Lukashenko said. According to the head of state, the construction of thermal power stations operating on local fuels will attract capital from the neighboring states, namely Russia and Ukraine. The Belarusian leader ordered to use the capacities of the Pruzhany co-generation plant in full. “We will closely monitor all the processes to prevent bungling,” the Belarusian leader said.
