Vitebsk Slavonic Bazaar to open 9 July

VITEBSK, 9 July (BelTA) – A solemn opening ceremony of the 19th international art festival Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk will take place at the Summer Amphitheater on 9 July, BelTA has learnt. Nearly 5,000 guests from 34 countries are supposed to take part in the 19th forum of arts. Representatives of Montenegro, Panama and Cuba will take part in the festival for the first time. The program of the show comprises 70 projects on 16 major urban venues. The Summer Amphitheater will host 19 concerts alone. Two concerts will take place at the rejuvenated Victory Square. A solemn opening concert will include Dmitry Khvorostovsky, Nikolai Baskov, Larisa Dolina, Yuri Antonov, Stas Mikhailov, Elena Vayenga, Inna Afanasyeva, Pesnyary, Syabry, Taisia Povaliy, Thomas Anders, Alexander Serov, Valeria, Dima Bilan, others. The Union State awards in literature and arts in 2009-2010 will be presented during the festival’s opening night. The prizewinners include a team of authors of Russia’s People’s Architect Yuri Grigoriev, sculptors Lev Gumilevsky and Sergei Gumilevsky from Belarus, sculptors Yuri Orekhov and Grigory Orekhov from Russia and also a team of authors including Soviet Union People’s Artists Aleksei Tkachev and Sergei Tkachev. People’s Artist of the Republic of Belarus Leonid Shchemelev is also among the prizewinners. The sophisticated public will able to enjoy the performance of Nino Katamadze and the Insight band. Theater goers will see the Moscow Theater and St Petersburg State Youth Theater. The Day of the Union State will be marked on 10 July. State Secretary of the Union State Pavel Borodin is expected to meet with veterans of the Great Patriotic War. A ceremony of laying flowers at the Eternal Flame will take place on the same day. The Vitebsk Art Museum exhibition of Leonid Shchemelev’s works To My Countrymen will run through 1 August. The Day of the Union State will also include the Two Sisters concert consisting of the songs on the poems of Belarusian and Russian poets. Special diplomas and prizes of the Union State Permanent Committee will be conferred on the participants of the festival. Partaking in the Vitebsk 2010 International Song Contest will be entries from 19 countries. Belarus will be represented by soloist of the Gomel Philharmonic Hall Denis Vershenko. The international jury panel will be chaired by Ukrainian singer Taisia Povaliy. 22 contesters from 19 countries will gather for the 8th International Children Music Contest “VITEBSK-2010”. Belarus will be represented by Zlata Larchenko and Anya Zaitseva. Nearly 900 craftsmen and artists will present the Towns of Craftsmen at the Slavonic Bazaar in Vitebsk. About Br2.5 billion of the presidential reserve fund and almost RUB25 million of the Union State budget have been allocated to organize and hold the Slavonic Bazaar. The festival will run through 15 July.
